Curriculum

Modules and Courses

The four semester lasting Master program comprises a workload of 120 credits. The program is structured modularly. In the following table, the examination subjects are specified by means of title, course type, credits (ECTS) and semester hours. For the three partner universities of the University of Graz only the module names and sub-module names are given.

In the column “O/OS/E” it is specified whether a module/a course is obligatory (O), obligatory selected (OS) or elective (E). Obligatory selected modules/courses are modules/courses which must be selected from a list/contingent of offered modules/courses. The description of the modules can be found in the following.

The first academic year takes place at the home university (modules A1 – A4), the mandatory stay abroad is in the second academic year (modules B1 – B4).

Description of the modules provided by University of Graz

Module A1.a: Basics in Business Administration

    Content:
      This module comprises the following topics
    • Basics in management
    • Basics in mathematics and statistics
    • English: Business English 1 and 2.
    Learning Objectives:
      The objective of this module is to provide basics for the study abroad (English) and for several courses in the specialization in business administration (course on Management and course on Advanced Mathematics and Statistics).
      At the end of the module students possess basic knowledge about actual developments in management research, organization theories, and theories of enterprise (course on Management), the ability to apply mathematical and statistical methods to solve relevant problems (course on Advanced Mathematics and Statistics) and to comprehend scrutinize and analyze English-language research articles as well as to follow technical lectures and to take part in scholarly discussions (course on Business English 1 and 2).
    Teaching Methods:
      Lectures, discussions, case studies, guest lectures, analysis of scholarly articles (course on Management), arithmetic examples (course on Advanced Mathematics and Statistics), presentations in and analyses and discussions of various subject areas (course on Business English 1 and 2).
    Presumed prior Knowledge:
      the completion of the course on Business English 1 is a precondition for the course on Business English 2.

Module A1.b and module B3.a: Information Science and Information Systems

    Content:
      More detailed topics of information science and information systems (business intelligence, e-business, electronic business models, information visualization, information retrieval, etc.)
    Learning Objectives:
      The module pursues a research- and project-oriented approach. Many of the topics are composed and prepared by the students.
      At the end of the module the students are able to develop a special subject in information science and information systems on their own; the competence to solve problems, the ability to use, analyzse, design and introduce information systems
    Teaching Methods:
      lecture, exercises, case studies, projects, oral presentations, discussions

Module A1.c: Specialization in Business Administration

    Content:
      Kenntnisse in einer oder mehreren betriebswirtschaftlichen Spezialisierungen (Marketing, Führung und Personal, Organisation, …). Es wird empfohlen, Lehrveranstaltungen aus dem englischsprachigen Studienangebot der Betriebswirtschaft zu belegen.
    Learning Objectives:
      Die AbsolventInnen dieses Moduls sollen über allgemein betriebswirtschaftliches Grundlagenwissen hinausgehendes betriebswirtschaftliches Spezialwissen verfügen und dieses auf praxisrelevante Pro-blemstellungen anwenden können.
      Die Studierenden verfügen über Kenntnisse aus den ausgewählten Bereichen der Betriebswirtschaft; die Fähigkeit zur selbständigen inhaltlichen Aufarbeitung von weiteren Themengebieten innerhalb der gewählten Vertiefung; die Fähigkeit, die erworbenen theoretischen Kenntnisse auf praktische betriebswirtschaftliche Problemstellungen anwenden zu können

Module B3.c: Selected Topics on Business Administration (only English-language courses)

    Content:
      This module comprises various topics on business administration provided in English-language courses.
      Examples are:
    • Strategic Human Resource Management
    • Sales Management
    • Innovation Management
    • Organizational Design and Strategy
    • Business-to-Business Management.
    Learning Objectives:
      The students are to possess an insight into various topics on business administration and be familiar with the technical terminology used. They are to be able to apply the acquired managerial knowledge in their main specialization (computer science, management information systems) in practice, for instance, when designing information systems in enterprises or when considering basic economic principles when designing application systems or in IT management (productivity paradox of information technology).
